What is Neurotherapy?

Neurotherapy, also known as neurofeedback, is a type of alternative therapy that uses EEG, or electroencephalography. EEG is a type of brain mapping that shows brain activity. This is helpful in identifying why a person may be experiencing certain mental health symptoms.

Basically, sensors are placed on the scalp of a patient, and brain activity is shown on a screen for clinical review. Then, the patient is guided through a number of techniques to show whether or not brain arousal is impacted by certain stimuli. Thus, allowing for the identification of why an individual may be experiencing symptoms of depression, trauma, anxiety, and more.

Along with providing helpful information about how the brain is functioning, Neurotherapy can also be helpful in training the brain. Essentially, the patient is guided through visual and audio cues which allow them to practice brain pattern improvement. This allows for a reduction in experienced symptoms and gives individuals lifelong tools to use for the self-preservation of mental health.

Who Can Benefit from Neurotherapy?

A number of people living with mental health symptoms may benefit from the use of Neurotherapy. People who may benefit from this type of therapy include those who:

  • May not be benefiting from medications or do not wish to utilize medications
  • Have not benefited from other therapies
  • Are using other types of therapies or medications
  • Want to increase brain function and experience helpful benefits like stress reduction and management

What to Expect from Neurotherapy at Comprehensive Care Clinic

At Comprehensive Care Clinic, we utilize brain mapping – a revolutionary technology that is able to record your brain activity, create a map of it, and compare it to the activity of a healthy brain. This practice establishes a baseline of what areas of the brain need the greatest support. Ultimately, EEG tests measure for anomalies in the brain patterns, giving you the ability to see your brain patterns in real-time and address them on the spot.

During your Neurotherapy sessions, you can expect three things:

  1. Identifying and recognizing where there is too little or not enough brain activity
  2. Developing a neuro training program to address these issues
  3. Participating in continual evaluations while making adjustments as needed
